Ballet

A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement.  The staff highly recommend that students study ballet.  It encourages grace and balance and is the true foundation and technique behind many of the other dance forms.

 

Pointe

Pointe is french for 'tip'.  This technique is done with specialized pointe shoes.  These shoes enable ballet students to execute steps on the tips of their toes.  Pointe requires a strong background in ballet.  Students will be evaluated during ballet class to decide if they are ready to begin pointe.

 

Tap

An American originated dance style where the student wears specially equipped tap shoes to perform complex rhythms and beats.  Students will learn to use musicality and style to execute precise and intricate dance steps.

 

Jazz

Jazz is a form that showcases individual style and originality.  This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves such as big leaps and quick turns.  A foundation in ballet is recommended.

 

Contemporary Modern

This dance style focuses on movement that is derived from individual expression.  Students will explore partnering, fall and recovery, floor work, improvisation and choreography in order to create new and innovative dance.  A foundation in ballet is recommended.

 

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is a form of theatre that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance to communicate a story.  Students will learn to become confident performers through teamwork, improvisational acting exercises and basic vocal training. 

 

Hip-Hop

A dance style that has evolved as a part of hip-hop street culture, students will learn basic breakdancing, popping, and locking.
